December 2013: a younger and distinctly blonder version of yours truly successfully managed to attract the attention of a Parisian Tom Ford sales assistant in order to purchase a gorgeous tube of glorious lipstick for my one and only mother... Over 12 months on and I'm proud to note that Mum's appreciation for TF has only blossomed, with two more beauty purchases following on from the gift I gave her for Christmas that year.
As my Tom Ford Stash remains at a constant low (that's 0 in case you were wondering) it seemed only right that I delved deep into the deliciousness that is Mum's Tom selection.
Team, prepare to get your drool on.
First off, that fateful lippy... The shade picture is Bruised Plum, purchased as a second best option when Black Orchid turned out to not only be discontinued, but display only. A whole other rant could go down here but I will control myself. Mum and I have discussed at length what we think of this guy and our verdict is not what you may expect... We love its longevity (I've showered in it and it held up remarkably well) and how it feels on the lips. Its application is easy, opaque in but one sweep, and the packaging is second to none... But we just don't think it quite justifies its price tag. Don't get me wrong, it is beautiful and I think the perfect gift for a lippy lover... It is just a little overpriced. Feel free to fight with me in the comments if you disagree with me on that one.
I'm happy to report however that the next two products truly wowwed me. We'll start with the nail polish, in the lovely shade Plum Noir. The downside for me, strange way to start a rave I know, is the brush. I am not a thin brush person. My manicure skills compare to that of a chimpanzee that lost its fingers at an early age. Oh gosh, thinking about that imaginary chimp is making me sad. The nail lacquer, however, is real and very much a cause for joy as its skinny brush aside, this formula is incredible. I mean what? Thomas Ford? What did you do? IS THERE SUPER GLUE IN THIS STUFF? Christ it's incredible. I get a good five days before my forever chipping nails chip (I am the girl that chipped her gel polish in less than twelve hours... so that really is incredible) and Mum gets some fading on the tips, but only changes it when she gets bored of the colour.
Yeah.
Anywho, this polish is the one I hinted at in this post, when I spoke about there somehow being a better nail polish formula out there than the incredible Maybelline Super Stay 7 Day. The greatest gift you could give anyone ever, folks.
I have somehow saved the best till last because we need to talk about young Thomas Ford and his sickeningly good cream eye shadow. Strewth and mercy me, this eyeshadow is hot diggity. To clarify, I speak of the grotesquely gorgeous Cream Colour in Platinum which, to my horror, I cannot find online for you... or me, because I need one. This is a link to a Google search I have prepared for you, but if that fails, I suggest we all meet at the TF counter in Selfridges London and lay our hands on everything they've got.
This shadow is insane. At first touch I withdrew my finger in touch - it's creamy as butter, how on earth will it stick to one's lid?
"It's wet, Mum!" I gasped.
"I know," said Mum. "And it's amazing."*
This stuff goes on smoother than a Baileys in your bathtub and sticks like a caramel cuddle of shimmering dreams. The shade is beautiful and it lasts wonderfully. This is what every penny you've ever earned was waiting for. Go out there and find your bronze cream shadowy child. She is waiting.
It's safe to say we've all been on quite the journey in this post. We've laughed, we've cried, we've Googled up a storm and some of us having even considered ringing Tom's head office in hysterics. In short, we have found the closest thing the makeup industry has to hard drugs.
Besides, you know, actual hard drugs.
Thank you for coming on this amazing voyage with me. And now I bid you adieu.
