My Makeup Core Collection: Part One

I've been thinking a lot about travelling again; specifically, about au pairing once uni is finally over and travelling means a condensed lifestyle.

Honestly, one of the best things about my Year Abroad was that I learnt that living with less makes me far happier, and the minimalism trend that has swept in this year has only backed this philosophy up.

If you have seen my makeup collection video,  you will realise that my stash doesn't easily fit into one makeup bag (it would have to be a small suitcase). Over the last few weeks I've been thinking long and hard about the categories of makeup that I'd rather not be without for my travels - now I'm sharing the first half of my core collection of must-haves with you!

The Base

In this here post I explained that my daytime base is one of those areas I'm still not happy with, but you guys stepped up with some incredible suggestions. At present I am deciding between Jouer Matte Moisture Tint, the Dior BB Creme and Max Factor Facefinity Foundation - big thanks to those of you that suggested these!

There is but one contender for my evening base - my bottle of Nars Sheer Glow is still going strong and while it breaks me out on occasion, it delivers on acceptable levels of glow and incredible longevity. I'm currently using the shade Mont Blanc, a pink toned pastel pale option.

When it comes to a heavy duty concealer, I'm still obsessed with Nars Radiant Concealer and I flit between the shades Chantilly and Vanilla. I use this both under my eyes and on blemishes; it sets well and lasts fabulously, so it is for sure going in my suitcase.

The Eyes

I will no doubt pack several mascaras as mascara is just the greatest. I'm obsessed with formulas that pack a punch volume-wise, and current contenders for this spot include Charlotte Tilbury's Full Fat Lashes, Revlon Bold Lacquer and my beloved Guerlain Maxi Lash. All fit the bill perfectly.

I've decided there has to be two categories for eyeliner. As my black liquid liner I will no doubt pack my Stila Stay All Day Eye Liner, as it is so easy to use and lasts wonderfully. I also feel I couldn't be without a brown kohl liner, so to that end I will be taking my Charlotte Tilbury Rock N Kohl in Barbarella Brown - it is seriously dreamy creamy.

My eyeshadow primer choice is an obvious one to any that know me - my Nars Pro Prime never leaves my side for makeup looks and good luck trying to get me to buy a different primer!

Eyeshadows are a little trickier; I've managed to whittle things down to one palette but with a few honourable mention single shades. The beauty of the Marc Jacobs Lolita Palette - besides, well, its beauty - is that it contains mattes shades that work on brows or in the day time, and shimmers that would transition well into the evening. I also love MAC Patina and Clinique Olive In My Martini.

For brows, there is no option other than my Maybelline Brow Drama - it is cheap and does the job so well.

That's it for this instalment of my makeup core collection - stay tuned for the second half, featuring all things lips, cheeks and nails!
